Sri Akilandeswari Women’s college affiliated to Madras University was started in the year 1995 by Swamy Abedhanandha Education Trust, Wandiwash.
During 2003 the college has been affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University. Department of Microbiology was started in 1995 with 13 students.
In the year 1998, Post Graduate course for Microbiology was started with 16 students. Later in 2011 the department has been upgraded to M.Phil research programme.
The department aims to develop the knowledge of students in the field of Medical Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular biology, Medical Virology, Mycology and Parasitology, Immunology, Microbial Genetics, Mushroom culture technology, Bio fertilizer technology, Vermiculture technology, Haematology & blood banking and Industrial microbiology.
The results show that the performance of students has been excellent and has increased over the years.
